Volunteer for Food Festival. Help Feed Your Neighbors!

When Jesus had compassion on the hungry multitude, he performed a miracle of love and multiplied the loaves and fishes he blessed. The more the people ate, the more there was left over to share.

We have an opportunity to make the miracle happen again!

Every year our parish joins the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival to raise money for Crossroads Food Pantry. The renowned street fair returns to the Avenue on Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Once more, we will be selling hot meatball heros and chocolate-covered strawberries. The friars have inherited former pastor Fr. Peter Colapietro's winning recipe for marinara sauce!

The more meatball heros and stawberries we sell, the more we will be able to feed our neediest neighbors through the food pantry. So in Christ's name, let us say, "Mangiamo!"

We need volunteers at the following hours for the following tasks:

Saturday, May 20

8 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Set up tents. Meet at Holy Cross Rectory to load the truck that will transport food service equipment.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Food service in 2-hour shifts. We need 8 volunteers for each 2-hour shift: 4 persons to sell meatball heros, 4 persons to sell dessert and beverages. Meet at Booths 15 and 17 on 9th Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Streets.

6 p.m.: Cleanup and breakdown of tents. We will bring tents, tables, and equipment back to Holy Cross Rectory.

Sunday, May 21

8 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Set up tents. Meet at Holy Cross Rectory to assist.

To sign up for a volunteer shift, call Holy Cross Rectory at 212-246-4732. Please provide your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail so we can save the shift you request.

Finally, tell all your friends and loved ones to buy a hero, dessert, or cold drink. The more they eat, the more our needy neighbors will eat!
